KENYA ACTORS GUILD MEMBERS RECRUITMENT 22-JUNE-2014
Actors worldwide are identified and protected by Guilds and the most common known guilds in the world for actors is the Screen Actors Guild (SAG now known as SAG-AFTRA after merging with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and South African Guild of actors (SAGA) which were both formed to protect the rights of their members.
As actors, we are all aware of the dangers and limitations of acting as a profession. Kenyan actors have never had meaningful representation to fight injustices that threaten their livelihood. History and sometimes bitter experience have taught us that a lone voice is not going to suddenly infuse the entertainment industry with justice, fairness and integrity. In most cases, individual actors do not have the financial resources to take contractual disputes to court. The only way to create an improved working environment in the entertainment industry is to stand together and act with a common purpose
Kenya Actors Guild is now registered under the Societies Act Cap 108 Laws of Kenya. The guild was formed to cater for the welfare of on screen actors and to improve capacity and professionalism amongst the acting profession in Kenya.
The Kenya Actors Guild is now ready to recruit and register members and there will be a recruitment process on the 22nd of June 2014 at the Kenya National Theatre between 2pm and 5pm.
To register one has to pay an annual registration fee of Kshs. 1000/- and is limited to any person who has performed or is performing or is about to perform as a performer in motion pictures (screen actors) as stated in the Guilds Constitution ( read it here).
Please carry your registration fee and a copy of your I.D
The registration will then be followed by elections of officials. Only registered members of the guild can vie for a position in the guild or vote someone into office as stated in the Guilds constitution.
We encourage all interested actors to show up on the 22nd of June for this big day to shape our acting industry and put a mark in our profession as we look forward to brighter future.
