BORN: 4th January 1977 , 36 year old Derrick Assetto is largely and famously known as the 1st and only Kenyan representative to ever grace the first pan-regional season of the popular TV show “Survivor Africa Series “ which aired in central and southern Africa and it included contestants from the countries of Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The show was broadcast on the channel M-net from September 3, 2006 to November 19, 2006 during which time twelve episodes were shown.

Derrick Assetto

Derrick describes himself as “just the typical guy next door” but there is nothing typical about Derrick especially when it comes to his acting career. Yes, he is also an actor, a model and a stuntman. He has been part of some amazing projects that he has kept quiet about until now.

He was a stuntman in a Russian adventure movie titled “Equator” in 2005 directed by Uliana Shilkina. During the same year, he played the role of a Maasai Warrior in a French movie “La Talpa”.  He was cast in a German movie titled “African Mourna Amor” right after survivor Africa where he played one of the Sedan carriers in 2006.

In 2008, he played the role of Roadblock Policeman in the BBC series, “Taking the Flak”.

In 2009, he was a stuntman and  played the role of a policeman in the biggest Kenyan movie of that year, The First Grader.

Derrick Assetto

Currently, he is the casting director of the Mnet Series T.K.O corner which is yet to be released and not much is known about it yet. . He describes the acting scene in Kenya as “a bit hard because you have to do it on your own, we don’t have agents. You have to hustle on your own.”

It does not end there though, Derrick has a distinct likeness to the Benin born and Hollywood actor Djimon Hounsou something which he’d like to take advantage of by maybe acting as Djimon's double /twin or even just his brother, if someone can actually come up with a script on that.

“My resemblance to Djimon is an advantage and a disadvantage. On one hand, if some Hollywood producer/director can actually think of working on a story where Djimon needs a brother, they won’t have to look no further. However, I have tried to contact Djimon and his agent severally but I never get any positive response because they perhaps feel I am a threat. A threat in terms of, if Hollywood actually realizes they could get me instead of Djimon, they’d probably do so at a cheaper price. Honestly, I would love to work with Djimon.” Says Derrick.

Born April 24, 1964 Djimon Gaston Hounsou is a Beninese-born American actor and model. As an actor, Hounsou has been nominated for two Academy Awards. Hounsou's film debut was in the 1990 Sandra Bernhard film Without You I'm Nothing. He had television parts on Beverly Hills, 90210 and ER and a guest starring role on Alias. Hounsou received a larger role in the science fiction film Stargate. n 2004, Hounsou was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for In America, making him the fourth African male to be nominated for an Oscar. In 2006, he won the National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Blood Diamond; he received Broadcast Film Critics Association, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Academy Award nominations for this performance.

Despite the 13 year age difference  between the two and  without a doubt, Djimon achievements and recognitions are not comparable to Derricks, one cannot however help but marvel at these two actors resemblance and it is my hope and prayer that someone comes knocking on Derrick’s door.
