SPOTLIGHT ON:MUTHONI THIONGO BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS #RIVERWOODAWARDS 2014

Maureen Muthoni Thiong`o popularly known as Muthoni Thiong`o is a Kenyan actress who has starred in over 10 movies and television series. Born on 13th Dec 1989 in kenol Muranga County this 25 year old is definitely a veteran in the acting industry. She attended kamenu primary school in Thika for primary education and later on joined Gitweku Secondary school in Kangema, where she attained her O levels.

Muthoni discovered her love for acting while she was still in primary school, taking on major roles at her school’s drama club. After her secondary education, Muthoni took her acting career a notch higher, getting cast to feature on leading roles for stage set books performances under Artskills theatre now turned into a film production company.

Her first set book was in 2009, the River Between by Ngugi wa Thiongo, where she played the lead actress as Nyambura/Muthoni. With her believable acting talent Muthoni secured herself a place on other set-books like An Enemy of the People, Utengano and Kifo Kisimani all under Artskills theatre.

In 2009 Muthoni advanced from stage performance to on screen acting, her first movie was On Edge a film Directed by Mwendwa Mutua portraying Rachael as the lead actress. She later on starred in Side Tracked still under Artskills Films.

 Her big breakthrough came in 2013, when she played a supporting actress role in the movie Tamed; this bagged her, an award of Best Supporting Actress at Riverwood Academy Awards 2014, putting her on total spotlight sealing huge deals with top directors and major production houses in Kenya.

She has also been featured in LifeStyle and Single Woman movies both by Zamaradi Productions and Switch By Artskills Film.

Adding to her already impressive resume, Muthoni has also done a number of Television Series. She has been featured on (KTN) Love 101 by SimbaVision Productions where she played a recuring role of Nicki, (K24) Mabeshte by Kentv Production, (Africa Magic Swahili) Taxi Driver by Kikwetu Productions, (Africa Magic Swahili) Waridi by Galaxy Media (Maisha Magic) and Santalal by Triple Edge Media where she plays a lead surppoting Actress as Cathy ( Citizen tv)

Apart from acting, Muthoni is also a phenomenal script writer having written  for Kaa rada on Citizen tv season 1, Junior on ktn and Santalal on Citizen tv.

She also does voice overs and has scored big deals with major corporations like

- Day Star University o – Royal Media Services

- Urithi Housing Finance – Artskills Films

She is a real African woman and her favourite food is Rice and Fish. Her hobbies include travelling, writing and watching movies.

It would be a dream come true for her if she gets a chance to work with Nini Wacera whom she describe as an amazing actress with a down to earth personality. She loves dressing up as she also sells ladies clothes. Her favourite part of her body is her eyes, which she says she is totally obsessed with.
