Actors.co.ke ® | HOLLYWOOD ACTORS RON PERLMAN, MICHAEL J. WHITE AND TONY JAA'S VISIT TO KENYA

Our Blogs

At a low key, red carpet, invites only event held on 20th October at the six star hotel Villa Rosa kempinski, Actors and media personalities were guests of a showdown that many people in this part of the world only dream about. They’ll go without any introduction owing to their stardom but for the sake of those who never know anything (lol) Hollywood actors Ron Perlman, Michael J.White  and Tony Jaa were in the country and in town as part of their Africa promotional campaign for their upcoming movie titled “Skin Trade”which is slated for release in April 2015. The group arrived in kenya together with film and TV producers, Howard Klein and Craig Baumgarten

Again, for my clueless peers, Ron Perlman is an American television, film and voice actor best known for his roles as Vincent in the television series Beauty and the Beast (for which he won a Golden Globe), as the comic book character Hellboy in both 2004's Hellboy and its 2008 sequel Hellboy II: The Golden Army and as Clarence "Clay" Morrow in television series Sons of Anarchy.

Michael J.White  is an American actor and martial artist who has appeared as Marcus Williams in the Tyler Perry films Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too?, and currently stars as the character on the TBS/OWN comedy-drama television series Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse. White portrayed Jax Briggs in Mortal Kombat: Legacy. White also portrayed boxer Mike Tyson in the 1995 HBO television movie Tyson.

Tony Jaa is a Thai martial artist, physical educator, actor, action choreographer, film producer, stuntman, director, and has spent time as a Buddhist monk. His films credits include Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior, Tom-Yum-Goong (also called Warrior King or The Protector), Ong-Bak 2: The Beginning, Ong Bak 3 and The Protector 2.

The new film (Skin Trade) which has them on tour is a Thai-Canadian action-thriller film directed by Ekachai Uekrongtham. It also features Dolph Lundgren who alongside Jaa, play the role of cops who take down a human trafficking ring. After Nick's (played by Lundgren) family is killed, he tracks the responsible Serbian mobsters to Bangkok, where they are involved in human trafficking. Nick teams up with a Bangkok cop, Tony (Jaa), to stop the operation. The 96-minute drama tells the revenge story of Nick after his family is killed by a Serbian gangster.

The group is set for the Masaai Mara, followed by Rwanda, and Djibouti.

Kenyan Actors, Lizz Njagah, Florence Nduta, Raymond Ofula, Abel Amunga, Joseph Babu Wairimu, Mugambi Nthiga, Neomi Wambui, Maureen Koech, Jacky Vike, Shirleen Wangari and Gerald Langiri were among those that graced the occasion which was Mc’d by Maqbul Mohammed and Dj/Actor Pierra Makena was on the decks.

Many of the guests were however a bit disappointed as the event was more of an exhibition than an interactive, networking one which many had hoped it would be. Apart from Tony Jaa who showcased some of his martial arts skills, the other two Hollywood stars only appeared on stage for the initial introduction and were rushed to go have interviews with journalists and later rushed to go have dinner. I guess for many of the guests it was a case of “they came, they saw...Full stop”.

A big thank you however to Tell-Em events and pr company for organizing for the event and the staff at Kempinski for the sumptuous meals and drinks that kept on flowing.

With Hollywood stars of this caliber visiting Kenya, one can only wonder what bigger things are in store for Kenya’s film industry.
