ACTOR MELVINA ALUSA AND SABINA STADLER: DO THEY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN #BBA9?

What do Melvin Alusa and Sabina Stadler have in common? Well, they are both Kenyans and will be representing the country in Big Brother 9 dubbed the hotshots and they are both actors in Kenya’s film industry. With the launch of BBA 9 taking place this Sunday (5th October) and multiple award winning musicians from Nigeria (Davido, Emmy Gee featuring AB Crazy and DJ Dimplez), Tanzania (Diamond), South Africa (Cassper Nyovest) among the opening acts, let us take a closer look at Kenya’s representatives:

Melvin Alusa

Melvin Alusa is 1st and foremost an actor most notably known as Nurse Jeff in the series Saints that aired on NTV. He has also featured in Series like Saints (as Sanjiv), Block D (Ben). His film credits include the award winning film 1st Grader among other short films. At some point his career his focus shifted to advertisement and is credited for a couple of Kenyan adverts.

33 year old Melvin is married with three children and describes himself as “ambitious, spiritual, outspoken, generous and mysterious”, Alusa likes people who are “detailed” and who have a good sense of humor, because he likes to laugh. He doesn’t enjoy people who ‘emit negative energy’.

Interestingly, Melvin is also remembered from Big Brother 8 where he was a surprise guest. His memorable moment includes making Annabel Mbaru from Kenya cry after telling her that she was being nominated all the time because she was not getting along with anybody. In his talented wallet, Melvin is also a Radio Drama Director and MC...add his charms, strong personality, charisma and character, and we have a Kenyan candidate born to be in the house.

Sabina Stadler

The second Kenyan contestant is the charismatic and beautiful Sabina Stadler. She too is a stage and screen actor. Having grown up as a performer in school and church plays, Sabina always had the love for acting. Despite her finance major, this young, stunning star is passionate about the arts and her expressive, loud and down to earth nature says it all.

Her TV credits include: Saints on NTV, Changing times on KTN, Changes on MNET, Tussle on KBC, and probably most known as Nicki on Papa Shirandula ( Citizen TV) where she used to act as the Human Resource manager in Anderson’s company. Her latest project Strata, where she played the main role, saw her make her debut into films. On Stage, the play Wanjiku’s Dilemma comes to mind when thinking of great performances she has had.

Sabina is not only an actress but a model. And why not? Have you seen her? Hot on the heels of that beauty comes her brain that is engaged in a post graduate diploma in International Relations. Up to the point Sabina is joining Big Brother, she was a QTV news anchor reading the 7pm swahili news.

A recent mother of one (Baby Hadassa), Sabina and Melvin join Millicent Mugadi and Nick Wangondu in the list of actors who have graced Big Brother.

The big question is, will they be able to win the USD300,000 that contestants in the house are all eyeing for or atleast get close to where Prezzo got?

With previous voting trends for Kenyan contestants, it seems unlikely. Looking at how Prezzo played his game in the house being all raunchy and not afraid to have his reputation tainted in anyway, he took big risks to almost get to the finish line.

Married Melvin and new mother Sabina clearly have things worth coming back home to once BBA is done with and I’m sure they wouldn’t want to spoil any reputation they have and thus might play the game a bit safe and voting patterns have always dictated the more you put out the more likely you are to stay.

One thing I can however count on is the fact that they are both actors and it relatively well known that actors can be dramatic and that is something that will definitely put them in the house longer. I do not expect an early eviction from both of them and Melvin's dare devil personality might put him in the house longer, but do they have enough oomph to get to the finish line? The voters definitely have a say in that.

What do you the voters think?

Be sure not to miss the jam packed, highly anticipated Big Brother Africa Hotshots live launch show which will air from 8pm (EAT) on Maisha Magic Channel 161.
