IN LOVING MEMORY OF NANCY NYAMBURA, RIP #JASTORINA

Nancy Nyambura’s transformation to Kanyanya or Naomi Kilewa was something one had to spare a minute to take in. Meet her out of character and she was a warm, bubbly,  extremely down to earth and very talkative lady always ready to tell you a tale about this or the other. Once she put on the rags, painted her face and take up that kikuyu accent, a typical mboch would appear before you and she made no apologies about it.

Kanyanya was the character name many had come to know of. From her days on Vioja Mahakamani (KBC) to Mashtaka on Citizen TV, she carried her stage name with pride knowing too well that is her unique brand. It soon paid off as she got a leading role on the show Jastorina (citizen tv) where she played the main character and is the show that propelled her to what was she became widely known as up until her time of passing.

Nancy Nyambura aka Nancy Kilewa

She entertained many and left others in stitches due of laughter but not known to most is the struggles she had to go through to become the woman she is.

Widowed with two children(Steve and Victor) and leaving her as the sole bread winner of her family, she had to make ends meet and at one point her in life she became one of the pioneers of female touts in Kenya. Her passion for acting however pushed her to network and meet film makers in the acting industry where she did kikuyu plays and that is where her name Kanyanya sprung from.

Her fortunes however turned when in 2010, she met Makokha who informed her about auditions for Vioja Mahakamani and the rest, like they say, is history.

The news of her death came as a shock to many and couldn’t have come at a worse time too. Her acting career was flourishing and she had just been announced the winner of the best performance in a comedy at the Kalasha Awards 2014 on Friday 25th July 2014 when news broke out a few hours later that she had passed away earlier on at 6:30pm.

She passed away at Kenyatta National hospital where she had been frequenting due to meningitis. Her condition however worsened and she had a mild stroke which took her life away.

It was double tragedy for the family of actress Nancy Nyambura when her mother died of shock 48 hours upon learning of her daughter’s death. She had been admitted at the Kijabe Mission Hospital.

The sorrow of the faithful is not that of permanent loss, but the tender sense of sadness
that comes in saying good-bye for now to someone we love. May today's sorrow give way
to the peace and comfort of God's love.

Rest In Peace Nancy Nyambura. You are celebrated.

Nancy Nyambura aka Jastorina
