I have beat myself up, literally, at times, just to try and answer this question; What story explains Kenya? What story explains the sort of culture we have? How do you make a film, a tv show, a documentary that will break boundaries in this country? A story that will be sensible and entertaining enough for any Kenyan between Karen and Kibera?

Sometimes I think that maybe our diversity is a blessing and a curse. Remember how difficult it was to come up with the Kenyan national dress? Everyone was confused about it. Do we follow the Maasai beads, or the Kikuyu stocking etc. At the end of it all, it was a fail, but of course that's just my opinion.

I have had conversations with a Nigerian and through them I realised that as "shity" as many might think their movies are, believe it or not its how they live. Maybe not all of them can afford the hotel sized mansions and the big cars, maybe not all of them can attest to beinG bewitched before, but it happens. In that country, in some communities if not all.Its the same wit every other nation that has a booming film industry.

The secret is to tell stories that are relevant to the whole country. And before you give me your suggestions, I would really appreciate it if you didn't mention that Kibera kid, HIV, or any of those sad, pitiful stories.

There must be more positive ways of talking about our nation.

Question is, what?

What story can we tell that can resonate with our mixed diversity cultures or is it case of you cant please everyone?
