Red Carpet? Check. Great Lighting?Check. Trophies? Check. Sound check? Uhhmm..wasnt well checked.  Never the less, the who’s who in the Kenyan Film Industry once again met at the auspicious 1st ever Riverwood academy awards to finally crown the winners on the 15th of March 2014.  The event was held at the open garden of Alliance Francaise to a crowd that looked as dashing as one can be as people correctly got the memo of African attire and formal red carpet wear.

Glitz and glamour galore as the event was Mc’d by Mwaniki Mwageria and graced by the likes of Cabinet Secretary of Sports, Culture and the Arts; Dr. Hassan Wario Arero, CEO of Machawood Victor Muniafu, Producers Appie Matere,  Bob Nyanja, John Karanja , Kangethe Mungai, Alexandros Konstantaras and the wife Lizz Njagah, Musician Ala-C who’s performance was well received, comedian Julius Maasai who left us in stitches with laughter plus many more big fish in the entertainment industry.

A successful event by any standards, the Riverwood awards were created to celebrate and honor the film makers who will not let anything hinder them from producing films in Kenya. While many are waiting for the millions of shillings to make films, Riverwood ensemble are at the forefront of a film making franchise.  With lots of zeal and passion they are producing movies in large quantities.

Now while others were passing on their congratulatory messages and showing their support, there were those who felt short changed and in the typical Kenyan stylesx, they voiced their dismay;

AWARDS!this awards were started by one Kang'ethe Mungai,the producer of Maisha Bure and Housemate.Yaani Kenyans are funny.When it is hard to get nominated for awards,they launch their own awards,receive their own nominations and go ahead to win win them.Now I know who the organizers of this awards are.When you want to bag an award,simply lauch one.The chairman of this awards is one Kang'ethe Mungai,whose production house hapens to produce Maisha Bure and Housemates.Kenyans kuweni serious.If I'm wrong,someone correct me” Producer Jirongo Luyali

“So how do we get to watch the movies that won?” Brian Munene Gitahi

If Ala makai won any award this is a joke!!!! Dummed!!!” said Brian MN D'sire

“Where are those movies? I have never watched them” Daniel Kimani

“This Kang'ethe guy is the director of Riverwood awards and the director/producer of Kikwetu productions who have produced housemates and maisha bure which have won...suprised at his production taking the awards? No I am not..I have watched maisha bure and housemates a few times. Sammy Kaguora maybe deserved to win but the rest aaaiii we have far better actors in our productions..ndio maana tutatoroka kutafuta Oscar..hizo tumewaachia. He started it to win against himself...this wretched kwanza. i heard ni pilot..lol” retorted Joe Maish

“How come i know wolf of the wallstreet and dont know those things you displayed up there and same characters you tagged alongside?” Kelvin Qihindas

Viable concerns?? Maybe or maybe not but we still go back to drawing board as filmmakers to tackle the issue of Marketing and distribution of our products to our audiences.
