Actors.co.ke ® | MAKE A FILM IN JUST 2DAYS. THE 48HOURS FILM PROJECT. NAIROBI, KENYA

Our Blogs

The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and your team have a blast making a movie. All writing, shooting, editing and scoring must be completed in just 48 hours. In 2001, The 48 Hour Film Project started as a local film challenge among friends. Since then, it has since evolved into a global phenomenon and the world’s largest filmmaking competition.

This year, The 48 Hour Film Project will tour nearly 125 cities, challenging more than 50,000 people to complete an entire film in a mere 48 hours! In all, more than 4,000 films will be created as part of the 2013 competition. The challenge will take over the streets of Nairobi from Friday 29th November – Sunday 1st December, 2013.

MISSION/HOW THE COMPETITION WORKS:

The 48 Hour Film Project's mission is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. Through its festival/competition, the Project encourages filmmakers and would-be filmmakers to get out there and make movies. The tight deadline of 48 hours puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers—emphasizing creativity and teamwork skills. While the time limit places an unusual restriction on the filmmakers, it is also liberating by putting an emphasis on "doing" instead of "talking."

On Friday the 29th of November, registered teams will gather at The Michael Joseph Center (HQ2 Waiyaki Way, Westlands) where they will be given a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue they must work into their film. Films submitted even 1-minute late on 1st December 2013 will be disqualified.

This year, Nairobi will be one of a record 125 cities worldwide – from Beijing to Lisbon - competing in the 48 Hour Film Project. Submitted films will be screened for the public and judged by a panel of experts. The Best Film from Nairobi will be chosen and winners will then be in the running for top honors in New Orleans, Louisiana at Filmapalooza 2014, the 48 Hour Film Project’s annual awards.  The top 12 films from this world-wide event will screen at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.

PRIZE FOR THE WINNING FILM:

The Best Film from Nairobi will be awarded a trophy and screened at the 48 Hour Film Project Filmapalooza in 2013.

The top 12 films globally will screen at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.

The top 3 films in Nairobi will premiere on Shorts TV after the competition

The Director of the winning film will receive Screen Writing Software.
