It’s a new dawn for Kenya’s television, as new and entertaining programs premier on our screens every other day and Kikwetu productions is determined to ensure that they produce only the best films for the Kenyan viewer. Based in Nairobi and with only five years in the field Kikwetu productions has grown in its capacity and quality to become one of the most esteemed production companies in Nairobi, over the years Kikwetu has produced several exciting movies among them Deceptions, Devine intervention, The Second honeymoon and the Kalasha awards nominee Senior Pastor all of which have premiered on DSTV’s Africa magic and some showcased on various local TV stations.

Currently Kikwetu productions is privileged of having two of their TV series air on local TV, Maisha bure airs every Thursday at 7pm on Qtv while Housemates comes thereafter at 9:55pm on K24.

Housemates is a dramatic and hilarious TV series revolving around the life of three classy young ladies living together under one roof.

Ruth Wacuka plays Ciku leader of the pack, working as a cabin crew in a reputable airline; she is the most sophisticated of the girls. She has played roles in various films including, Deceptions, Divine Intervention, The second honeymoon and the Senior pastor among others, she is also a lead actor in Maisha bure where she plays Petronila, a crazy woman constantly in conflict with everyone, but it is her role in Housemates that has become a milestone presenting a new platform for her. Not only that, her interest in cosmetics has advanced her skills as an excellent make-up artist, pursuing a degree in bachelor of arts and communications at St. Paul’s university. Wacuka’s star is bound to get even brighter and the sky is her only limit.

Caroline Wairimu plays Chebi she represents rational modesty, always ready to take one for the team and won’t let a bad tendency catch on. Working as a receptionist, Chebi is the most hospitable of the girls. For her this role has developed her spontaneity on set and advanced her prowess as a seasoned actress. Caroline is focused, precise and quite swift on her cues. She has taken major roles in various films including the senior pastor and Cross roads. She also plays Mona in the just premiered Maisha bure, her presence on set is quite reassuring and has demonstrated her importance as an ideal supporting cast.

Leila is played by Janet Mbunga, despite the contradiction from her real nature she is able to pull off the role quite excellently bringing out the wild and crazy element in the program, her selfishness and total disregard of her friends’ interests is always rubbing out badly with those close to her, added to the fact that she just can’t keep off other women’s men. Having started off her career on stage Janet has transformed to become one of the most promising and entertaining actresses in Kenya. Her roles keep improving with every take, with barely a year in the industry Janet has already made her mark with a major role in Senior Pastor were she performed exceptionally.

Produced by Kikwetu productions and Directed by Kang’ethe Mungai, House mates is about Life in the fast lane, where the girls are sometimes  forced to resort to unconventional strategies in order to keep up, an endeavor that seems almost impossible for them since their only hope is in their union which regrettably is impossible for them to maintain. With only five months on TV, House mates boasts of having the fasted growing viewership.

Watch House mates a tantalizing TV series every Thursday at 9:55pm on K24, and prepare to be baffled captivated, tickled and stunned by the level which Kenyan soaps have finally arrived at.

Lately, I don’t look forward to watching new Hollywood movies or even series like I used to a while back. Reason; I’m tired of seeing the likes of Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, Nicole Kidman and not to mention Angelina Jolie in every movie I watch. I mean, can’t they get new faces for me to feast my eyes on? Isn’t it boring to watch Angelina Jolie’s lips year in year ...
