50 ACRES OF LAND SET ASIDE FOR A FILM CITY IN MACHAKOS - GOVERNER ALFRED MUTUA.

The mind blowing and very successful Machakos Investment Conference held at Manzoni Lodge on the 16th - 18th May 2013 saw a surplus of investors attend than what was expected.” We had planned for 500 people and got 2000 on Day 1 and 1200 on Day 2.  We signed 72 MOUs reflecting an investment of 56.3 billion shillings.  Investors came from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, South Korea, Malaysia, China, India, Oman, Canada, UK, Italy, USA & South Africa.” said Governor Alfred Mutua in his thank you speech.

The conference was organized to give investors a clearer picture of the opportunities that lie in Machakos county, a county which has for the longest time been seen a dry place where business opportunities are lacking. This is a picture that Alfred Mutua is determined to change as he organized for this 1st Machakos Investment conference.

The former government spokesman promised investors that the county will facilitate and not frustrate business. The county has plans to set up one stop shops for investors to register their businesses in the county without encountering bureaucratic procedures. The offices  which will be digitally interconnected will be up and running in 3 months. “We will do the running for you even to Nairobi,” Dr. Mutua said. Investors intending to set up in the county were also promised free land for certain ventures. The county government intends to utilise private public partnerships (PPPs) and Build – Operate  - Transfer (BOT) models to finance infrastructure projects.

The Governor of Machakos in his speech invites people to his county to make money…tons of money. His plan is to make Machakos the premier zone of investment in Kenya and the entire region which will go a long way in creating employment opportunities to Kenyans. It is their plan to make a new Machakos city, next to the old city on a 4,000 acre piece of land.

Apart from an ICT centre and financial centre among other centres going to be built, the Governer also intends to set aside 50 acres to build a film city/entertainment city which will also go by the name of “Machahood”. In Machahood, film and music studios, action productions are all planned to be erected as per the plans.
